Nimbus Design closed a $40 million round to expand its 3D UI authoring platform, which helps product teams design, prototype and ship 3D interfaces. The platform supports a hybrid workflow where 2D components map onto 3D surfaces, enabling designers to maintain a unified design system across dimensional contexts.
Features include automatic lighting presets that keep contrast and legibility consistent, tokenized material systems, and export paths for web, mobile AR, and engines. Nimbus emphasizes accessibility for 3D: guidelines for motion tolerances, depth cues, and readable typography on curved surfaces.
The funding will support SDK development for AR glasses, deeper collaboration features, and a marketplace for vetted 3D UI patterns. Enterprises in retail and automotive have begun pilots to prototype vehicle dashboard UIs and AR shopping overlays.
