Nimbus Games raises $22M for cross-platform engine tailored to 2D narrative titles

Nimbus Games announced funding to build a cross-platform engine aimed at narrative-driven 2D games and visual novels. The engine includes localization pipelines, UI templating systems for variable text lengths, and episodic content tools that let creators push story updates without repackaging the whole game.

The $22 million round was led by Storyline Ventures and will be used to expand the engine’s export targets, strengthen localization features for right-to-left languages, and provide monetization primitives like episodic DLC storefronts and subscriptions. Nimbus emphasized a lightweight runtime for mobile and web.

Indie narrative studios said the engine reduces engineering overhead, allowing them to focus on writing and art. Nimbus plans an early access program and a marketplace for UI templates, dialogue systems, and localization vendors to integrate with the engine.
