Nimbus Labs raises $45M to scale on-device multimodal LLMs for mobile UX

Nimbus Labs announced a $45 million Series B led by Meridian Ventures to accelerate production of its on-device multimodal LLM optimized for smartphones and tablets. The funding will expand engineering teams in the U.S. and EU and speed up partnerships with OEMs targeting privacy-preserving AI features.

The company demonstrated a pre-release SDK that runs text, vision, and limited audio understanding locally with quantized models under 1GB. Nimbus says this enables features like offline image-aware writing assistants, private AR captions, and real-time UI summarization without data leaving the device.

For UX designers, Nimbus highlights lower latency and predictable behavior as benefits for more seamless conversational UI patterns. The startup plans enterprise tiers for regulated industries and is positioning itself as a middleware partner for Android OEMs and privacy-sensitive app makers.
