Notion’s move to real-time collaboration made static documents feel alive, but in pages with many simultaneous editors the UI can become noisy. User attention is split between cursor indicators, comment threads, and live edits, sometimes causing missed changes or accidental overwrites.

Improvements include grouped cursor summaries that aggregate activity by team, heatmaps for recent edits to focus attention, and micro-mediation tools for conflict resolution — for instance, a suggested merge pane for overlapping edits. Social affordances like appearing indicators ('X is reviewing this section') reduce collision and increase courtesy editing.

These changes preserve the immediacy of live collaboration while making group editing scalable. They also respect varying collaboration styles by letting teams toggle density of real-time indicators and select preferred conflict workflows.
