Notion introduces 'Design Notes' powered by on-device LLM summarization
Tech · 3 min read
Design Notes enables teams to drop in Figma links, screenshots, and meeting recordings; an on-device LLM then produces short summaries, action items, and proposed tasks. The architecture runs locally in the Notion desktop app when possible, falling back to encrypted cloud inference only when users opt in.
The feature emphasizes privacy and audit trails—each generated note includes metadata about source files and timestamps, and enterprises can require retention rules or deny cloud fallbacks. Notion integrates the summaries into task creation so suggested action items can be turned into assignments with a couple of clicks.
Early testers found Design Notes useful for preserving rationale and speeding up asynchronous reviews, especially across distributed teams in different time zones. Notion plans to extend the capability to support design critiques and sentiment-tagged feedback in future releases.
