Notion launches Layouts: responsive grids and components to replace bulky pages
Design · 4 min read
Layouts introduces a grid system with snapping, breakpoints, and responsive behavior, enabling product teams to build internal dashboards and lightweight UIs directly in Notion. Components can be shared across spaces, versioned, and bound to inline databases to act as primitive UI controls.
The new inspector exposes props and bindings for each component, allowing product managers and engineers to inspect values and export component definitions as JSON or as code snippets in React. Notion also added role-based permissions for component editing and a component marketplace for teams to share internal UI patterns.
Notion positions Layouts as a complement to design systems rather than a replacement for full-fledged design tools. The company aims to shorten the prototyping loop for internal apps and reduce developer friction for basic front-end screens.
