Notion's block model provides unmatched composability: text, media, databases, and embeds can all be rearranged and nested. This uniformity simplifies mental models and lets power users create complex documents and dashboards without bespoke tooling. The inline slash menu and templates accelerate common tasks but can overwhelm new users who face an empty canvas.

Scaling the block model across teams introduces governance challenges. Notion introduced templates, access controls, and linked databases to mitigate chaos, but discoverability of canonical pages versus user-created noise remains an issue. Versioning and history tools help, yet the UX for reconciling duplicated schemas or merged workspaces can be clunky for admins.

Notion's strength is flexibility, but that is also its Achilles' heel for onboarding at scale. Product teams should consider curated starter kits, clearer schema templates, and surfacing team norms within the UI. The teardown argues that a block model can support both creativity and structure, but it requires deliberate scaffolding to prevent entropy.
