ChartMate transcribes patient encounters and summarizes key items into structured EHR entries, billing codes and follow-up tasks. Obsidian uses a combination of on-premise inference options and encrypted cloud processing to meet hospitals' security and compliance needs.
General Catalyst led the $120 million round, with participation from Insight Partners and healthcare systems. Obsidian said the funding will accelerate hospital integrations, expand clinical NLP capabilities, and fund outcomes research to validate time savings and accuracy.
Pilot deployments at two large health systems showed physicians saved an average of 2.8 hours per week on documentation. Obsidian emphasized clinician oversight: ChartMate includes an explicit verification workflow where clinicians approve or correct AI suggestions before they are entered into the record.
