Obsidian introduces StoryForge and raises $45M to produce narrative-first indie games

StoryForge provides a visual node-based editor for branching narratives with variable tracking, automated QA checks for dead-end flags, and export pipelines into common engines. Writers can simulate playthroughs and generate dialog variants using built-in templates.
Obsidian’s $45 million will underwrite a production slate of smaller, narrative-driven titles and support the distribution of StoryForge to external studios. The company aims to lower the barrier for rich storytelling by providing standardized tooling and funding.
Indie writers welcomed the authoring ergonomics and QA features, which can catch logical inconsistencies early. Obsidian said StoryForge will be integrated into its own development pipelines and offered commercially for external partners.
