Opal Design raises $18M to scale AI-driven design system automation

Opal Design closed an $18 million Series A led by Greylock to scale its AI-powered design system tooling, which automatically detects inconsistencies, suggests tokens, and generates code-ready components. The startup says its service reduces the time design teams spend on housekeeping by up to 70%.
The product plugs directly into Figma and Git repositories, creating a continuous synchronization pipeline where Opal’s model proposes design tokens and accessibility improvements, then creates pull requests with component updates. Early customers include fintech and healthcare product teams that need strict design governance.
Funding will be used to deepen React and SwiftUI integrations, add enterprise auditing features, and build a marketplace for verified design system templates. Opal also announced pilot programs with three large enterprises for cross-product standardization.
