The metadata schema defines fields for object semantics (name, role, affordances), spatial audio cues (directional labels, fallback descriptions), and interaction accessibility (recommended input mappings, required precision). Authors can embed metadata in common formats (glTF extensions, HTML-like scene descriptors) so that runtime engines and assistive agents can surface context to users.

Early implementations demonstrate that lightweight metadata lets engines produce accessible fallbacks: automated alt descriptions for distant objects, dynamic captioning for environmental sounds, and haptic proxies for visual-only cues. The proposal also includes versioned compatibility rules to keep older scenes functional while enabling progressive enhancement.

Tooling around the proposal is emerging—exporters from popular 3D editors, validation plugins for design systems, and accessibility simulators that emulate low-vision or single-handed input. If adopted widely, the standard could reduce friction for inclusive AR/VR experiences and give designers clearer contracts for how scenes should behave for assistive technology.
