The new library from OpenAI provides ready-made prompt scaffolds for tasks frequently used by people who rely on assistive technologies: plain-language summaries, step-by-step instructions, audio description cues, and alternative text generation that prioritizes identity-affirming language. Each template includes guidance on when to request clarification, how to handle ambiguous sensory information, and how to avoid harmful stereotypes.

Alongside the templates, OpenAI published dataset provenance notes and a fairness checklist aimed at developers integrating models into accessibility features. The checklist covers testing with screen readers, ML performance across language variants, clarity for cognitive-accessibility, and safe-handling policies for identity-sensitive content. The company also exposed metadata that flags outputs more likely to require human review, such as content about medical conditions or legal processes.

Accessibility experts welcomed the move as a pragmatic step toward safer assistive AI, but they emphasized the need for community governance and participatory testing with disability-led organizations.
