OpenAI releases GPT-4o Vision Pro with 8K image understanding and on-device inference options

OpenAI's GPT-4o Vision Pro extends the GPT-4o family with support for images up to 8,000 pixels on the longest side and improved spatial reasoning tuned for UI, photography, and product design tasks. The model includes new visual tokens that maintain layout fidelity and can produce structured outputs (JSON/HTML/SVG) describing component boundaries, spacing, and style attributes.
Crucially for design teams, OpenAI is shipping an on-device runtime that runs a quantized GPT-4o Vision Pro on modern ARM Macs and select Windows laptops with integrated neural accelerators. The on-device option limits telemetry and reduces latency for interactive workflows like live style transfer, image-aware content suggestions, and accessibility checks.
The rollout includes plugins for major design apps: Figma, Adobe, and Framer. Each plugin exposes features such as automatic alt-text with component-awareness, vector trace suggestions that preserve typography, and a rapid prototyping mode that turns photographed whiteboard sketches into editable frames. Pricing and enterprise licensing emphasize hybrid cloud/on-device deployments for sensitive projects.
