OpenBeacon raises $200M to expand city-scale IoT mesh and analytics

OpenBeacon, a provider of city-scale sensor networks and analytics, closed a $200 million round led by Civic Infrastructure Partners with strategic participation from several municipal funds. The capital will scale tens of thousands of sensors and gateways for traffic, air quality, and infrastructure monitoring.

OpenBeacon’s platform focuses on mesh networking hardware designed to operate on low-power wide-area frequencies and includes edge analytics to reduce data egress. The company is also launching a privacy-first marketplace where anonymized, consented datasets can be rented to researchers and service providers.

City customers highlighted immediate ROI through improved traffic signal timing and predictive maintenance for lighting and pumps. OpenBeacon plans to expand to 50 new municipal customers in the next 18 months and said part of the funding will subsidize deployments in lower-income neighborhoods to improve equitable access to civic data.
