OpenByte reveals WhisperNet 2 for on-device LLMs and secures $200M strategic investment

WhisperNet 2 includes quantization pipelines, an edge-friendly runtime, and a developer suite for fine-tuning compact LLMs with differential privacy guarantees. OpenByte positions the toolkit for industries like healthcare, finance, and automotive where data locality and low latency are critical.

Aurora Capital's $200 million strategic stake will fund global edge infrastructure partnerships, expansions into chip-level optimizations, and certification processes for regulated sectors. OpenByte said Aurora's investment also secures preferential access to datacenter and edge compute nodes for hybrid deployments.

The company is releasing open-source components for model optimization while keeping some proprietary runtime features for paying enterprise customers. OpenByte plans to showcase WhisperNet 2 in several pilot programs next quarter, including a healthcare triage assistant and an in-car voice agent.
