OpenCharge and VoltCity Launch Universal EV Charger with Location-Based Smart Billing

VoltOne is billed as a hardware-and-platform solution for cities and private operators: the charger supports AC and DC fast charging, multiple payment rails, and a programmable billing engine that splits revenue between municipalities, landlords, and operators based on geofencing rules.

The device integrates with local transit apps and mobility wallets to enable time-of-day pricing, occupancy incentives, and permit enforcement. Operators can update billing rules via an admin dashboard, while drivers see real-time pricing and availability in partner apps.

Initial pilots target dense urban areas with limited curb space, where municipalities want flexible monetization and better utilization. OpenCharge plans an SDK for third-party payment providers and analytics features for policymakers to study EV adoption and curb economics.
