OpenForge Releases Open Design Language Model with GPL-Compatible License

OpenForge's DesignLM is trained on a curated corpus of permissively-licensed UI patterns, iconography, and component libraries. The organization focused on dataset transparency and reproducible training pipelines, publishing checkpoints and training scripts alongside the model.

The GPL-compatible stance removes common legal hurdles for teams that need local deployment without SaaS lock-in. DesignLM provides tooling for generating tokens, icon variants, and layout suggestions and is optimized for CPU-based inference to accommodate smaller studios.

Community contributors are already building adapters for Figma, Sketch, and Inkscape. OpenForge also published a risk assessment guide for safe usage in production and invited third-party audits to ensure the model's compliance with dataset licensing goals.
