OpenLayer raises $120M Series B to scale multimodal LLMs for design workflows

OpenLayer announced a $120 million Series B led by Horizon Ventures with participation from several strategic investors focused on media and design software. The startup builds multimodal LLMs that understand sketches, images, and text prompts to generate design suggestions, specifications, and microcopy for product teams.
The company says the new funding will accelerate training of larger multimodal models, license additional visual datasets, and expand its API footprint inside major design suites. A priority is improving sketch-to-prototype fidelity so that early hand-drawn concepts can be converted into interactive wireframes.
OpenLayer also previewed an SDK for Figma, Sketch, and Adobe that embeds on-device inference hooks and a governance layer to audit model outputs. The startup positions itself as a bridge between creative tooling and large models, with a focus on reproducibility and IP attribution for design assets.
