Open-source UXLM project launches a standard for UI model interchange

UXLM defines a JSON-based schema for component trees, interaction states, accessibility annotations, and tokenized design systems. It also specifies serialization rules for multimodal inputs like annotated screenshots and hand-drawn wireframes, enabling consistent transformations across toolchains.

Backers include several design tool vendors, academic labs, and open-source contributors who want models and tooling to interoperate. The specification includes converters for existing formats (Figma JSON, Sketch files) and guidelines for model output validation.

Project leads hope UXLM will accelerate experimentation by allowing teams to apply multiple models and tools to the same artifacts without rewriting pipelines. The group plans to maintain the spec openly and welcomes contributors from product and research communities.
