Orbit.fm raises $14M to launch Muse, an AI composer for adaptive game soundtracks
Gaming · 3 min read
Muse generates dynamic, mood-aware music that responds to player actions, pacing, and in-game emotional signals. Developers provide high-level themes and instrument palettes, and Muse composes transitions and layers that match live gameplay.
The $14 million seed was led by Cadence Ventures with participation from several audio-focused studios. Orbit.fm will use the funds to refine generation models for different genres, improve integration with audio middleware like FMOD and Wwise, and license orchestral sample libraries.
Muse supports offline rendering for director-approved tracks and live synthesis for runtime adaptability. Sound designers can edit generated stems, lock motifs, and add curated crescendos, making Muse a collaborative tool rather than a full replacement for composers.
Early demos show Muse effectively gluing together procedural musical segments to match narrative beats and combat intensity. Orbit.fm plans to offer both a subscription for indies and a licensing tier for larger studios requiring source-asset ownership.
