PaperTrail Raises $5M to Expand Design System Accessibility Plugin

PaperTrail’s plugin analyzes components and suggests accessible token replacements—color, spacing, typography—for better contrast, touch target sizes, and screen reader compatibility. It also generates accessible component variants and documentation snippets for engineering teams.

The $5 million pre-seed came from Studio VC and several accessibility-focused angel investors. PaperTrail plans to add automated remediation suggestions, cross-platform token exports, and enterprise access controls to meet design-team governance needs.

Design leads using the tool said it reduced manual accessibility review time and made accessibility considerations more visible during early design explorations. PaperTrail stresses that automation helps surface issues but still recommends human accessibility reviews for complex interactions.
