PixelForge reveals Forge Pocket, a Linux-based handheld focused on indie developers

PixelForge introduced the Forge Pocket, a handheld gaming device running a custom Linux distribution optimized for low-latency input and native game deployment. The device includes an open bootloader, integrated USB-C dev dock, and tooling to compile and test runs directly onto the console.

The hardware features a 7-inch high-refresh OLED, modular control plates, and a dedicated neural accelerator for on-device AI features such as upscaling and physics assistance. PixelForge emphasized the platform’s openness—developers can publish directly to the company’s curated store or sideload builds for testing.

Forge Pocket preorders open next month with a developer edition that includes early SDK access, cloud build credits, and priority support. PixelForge hopes to foster an indie ecosystem where small teams can ship native titles without console certification overhead.
