PlayCanvas announced a $14 million funding round to expand its browser-native 3D engine and collaborative editor. The company aims to enhance real-time collaboration, asset streaming, and performance profiling for teams building interactive 3D content for web and mobile.
Planned features include a networked editor for simultaneous scene editing, advanced streaming of large assets to reduce load times, and integrated performance budgets that flag expensive shaders and draw calls. PlayCanvas emphasizes low-barrier publishing and aims to simplify cross-platform delivery.
Developers and UX designers benefit from cloud-hosted previews and inline analytics that surface user behavior across 3D interactions. PlayCanvas also announced partnerships with several asset marketplaces to streamline licensing for commercial projects.
The funding will be used to scale regional servers, build enterprise controls for collaboration, and add an SDK for integrating PlayCanvas scenes into native apps. The company targets an expanded enterprise offering in 2027.
