PlayForge launches Ember Engine and raises $55M to build a modular console dev stack
Gaming · 5 min read
Ember Engine is a componentized runtime that supports rapid iteration with live code reloading, deterministic networking, and a visual profiler tailored for gameplay loops. PlayForge built the engine to reduce time-to-playable for small studios and to make console certification processes smoother through automated artifact checks.
The Series B was led by Horizon Games Capital and includes strategic investment from a console platform partner. PlayForge emphasized workflow improvements: integrated performance budgets, frame captures, and a visual node-based behavior editor that designers can use without deep code changes.
PlayForge also announced a subscription tier that bundles cloud build queues and QA testing on certified hardware. Several indie studios already signed up for early access and reported significant reductions in iteration cycles during prototyping phases.
