PlayForge launches ForgeCloud with $50M Series B to build cloud-native game dev IDE

ForgeCloud offers a browser-based IDE that integrates code, assets, and live scene editing with deterministic builds for PC, console, and mobile. PlayForge says the system reduces onboarding time for new hires by syncing assets and scenes on first login and enabling live multiplayer testing of game scenes.

The funding round was led by Crestline Partners and includes strategic investment from a major console manufacturer keen on streamlining indie-to-platform pipelines. PlayForge plans to use the capital to expand global edge build farms, add AI-powered asset optimization, and certify native integrations with Unreal and Unity.

Early studio partners praised ForgeCloud for reducing build times and simplifying cross-platform testing, though some raised IP and data residency questions for bigger publishers. PlayForge responded with enterprise-grade contracts, customizable encryption, and on-prem options for studios requiring closed pipelines.
