PlayForge secures $45M to build collaborative level-design tools for studios

PlayForge, a startup focused on collaborative game development tooling, announced a $45 million Series A led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. The company is launching a suite for level and world designers that combines real-time multiuser editing, asset-driven versioning and automated playtesting hooks.

The platform integrates with Unity and Unreal Engine and provides a browser-based editor that mirrors the native engine scene graph. Designers can invite teammates to co-edit scenes, attach design annotations tied to QA test cases, and run automated instrumentation to catch gameplay pacing or conflict issues early.

PlayForge plans to use the funding to build deeper engine plugins, native performance profiling, and an SDK for studios to capture telemetry against design hypotheses. Several mid-size studios are already piloting the product, citing faster iteration on level layout and fewer context-switches between design and engineering.
