Playforge Studios Acquires SparkNet and Raises $25M to Build Episodic Live Service Titles
Gaming · 4 min read
Playforge Studios revealed a $25 million internal fund to develop episodic live-service titles and disclosed the acquisition of SparkNet, a middleware firm specializing in multiplayer synchronization.
The combined strategy is to deliver bite-sized episodic content updated monthly, with SparkNet’s middleware enabling rapid server-side iteration and seamless cross-play. Playforge plans a pipeline for serialized storytelling with community-driven branching.
Acquisition details include the integration of SparkNet’s deterministic rollback and netcode into Playforge’s engine, reducing engineering workload for live patches and seasonal content. The studio promises mod tools and creator support for community-driven episodes.
Funding will seed multiple teams and a shared live-ops backend; Playforge aims to trial a flagship episodic title with a closed alpha in early 2027.
