PlayGrid raises $20M to launch cloud-native cross-play matchmaking for indie devs

PlayGrid offers matchmaking as a service with cloud regions optimized for game servers and an SDK that supports unified cross-play across console, PC, and mobile. The platform includes tournament primitives, social persistence, and anti-cheat hooks designed for smaller teams who lack backend expertise.
The $20 million round was led by Arcadia Ventures and included several angel studio founders. PlayGrid will invest in scaling server fleets, native SDKs for Unity and Unreal, and partnerships with platform holders to streamline certification for indie titles.
Indie developers who piloted PlayGrid say it cut the time to launch live multiplayer modes from months to weeks, allowing teams to focus on game experience rather than backend complexity. The company also plans to introduce a revenue-share hosting tier to make costs predictable for new studios.
