Redesign Case Study: DonorFlow Shrinks Donation Funnel and Boosts LTV
Design · 7 min read
DonorFlow had a classic problem: good traffic but low conversion to recurring donations. A cross-functional UX audit revealed many micro-frictions—unclear impact breakdowns, buried recurring options, and an overcomplicated form with optional fields presented too early. The team mapped the donor journey and restructured the funnel into three concise steps: impact, amount & frequency, and confirmation.
Design changes included a commitment-first layout that offered an amount slider with suggested defaults, an inline impact calculator, and a one-click recurring toggle with transparent receipts. They also introduced a donor control panel post-donation where givers can adjust frequency and see detailed impact reports. Importantly, the redesign delayed optional fields to after donation success to minimize abandonment.
A randomized rollout to 40% of traffic showed a 22% lift in conversion to any donation and a 31% lift in recurring donor sign-ups. The lifetime value of donors in the test cohort increased by 18% over six months. DonorFlow’s work underscores how empathic UX—prioritizing commitment and clarity—can materially alter fund-raising outcomes for mission-driven products.
