Remote-First Design Teams See 12% Faster Hiring, Report Says

Design managers from startups to large enterprises report that shifting to remote-first hiring cut average time-to-hire from 45 to 39 days. The gains stem from asynchronous portfolio reviews, recorded take-homes, and broader candidate pools beyond local metros.
Managers also point to improved diversity: hiring teams tapped talent in underrepresented regions and offered flexible schedules that attracted caregivers and international talent. The trade-offs included more investment in onboarding and more deliberate cultural rituals.
To sustain quality, teams standardized design exercises, used scorecards for unbiased feedback, and automated interview scheduling. For candidates, the trend means more remote opportunities but also more structured, multi-stage processes that demand preparation in asynchronous communication.
