Remote-First Hiring Booms, But Companies Add Onsite Design Hubs for Senior Staff
Tech · 5 min read
Many tech companies that adopted remote-first policies in 2023–2024 have doubled down on distributed hiring, increasing the diversity of candidate pipelines while controlling office overhead. Recruiters told SatisfiedUser that remote hiring allowed teams to fill mid-level roles faster and hire specialists outside traditional talent pools.
At the same time, firms are establishing boutique in-person design hubs in strategic cities to offer senior designers focused collaboration, rapid prototyping labs, and stronger mentorship. These hubs are marketed as perks: on-site equipment stipends, project leadership opportunities, and the chance to influence product direction—benefits that help negotiate higher compensation for senior roles.
The result is more nuanced offers: remote mid-level designers often receive smaller base increases but larger equity or flexible-work stipends, while senior hires at hubs secure higher base salaries plus leadership premiums. Designers evaluating offers should weigh hybrid career growth and visibility against short-term cash, especially if they aspire to director-level roles.
