RetroForge launches AI-driven level editor 'ForgeMap' and closes $6M seed
Gaming · 3 min read
ForgeMap uses learned heuristics and player-flow models to suggest enemy placement, pacing, and reward distribution that fit a designer’s chosen difficulty curve. Designers can prompt the editor with mood, length, and mechanical constraints and then fine-tune with traditional tools.
The $6 million seed round was led by PlayCraft Labs and will be used to expand content packs, integrate with popular engines, and introduce community sharing features. RetroForge also plans to add telemetry-driven iteration tools so creators can refine levels using real player data.
Indie developers praised the speed gains in prototyping, while some veterans cautioned about over-reliance on generated layouts for signature level design. RetroForge emphasized that ForgeMap is intended as a co-creation tool, not a replacement for human creativity.
