RiftStream initially prioritized broad device compatibility and feature-rich overlays, but competitive gamers reported that latency and jitter information was buried in settings. Product designers worked with engineering to create a latency-first dashboard that surfaces end-to-end ping, encoder bitrate controls, and quick presets for competitive, balanced, and battery modes.

The UI redesign also introduced live diagnostics: a microbreadcrumb of latency events, packet loss graphs, and one-tap remedies like switching to a lower-latency codec or toggling hardware acceleration. Designers simplified the overlay so the diagnostic UI appears only when metrics deviate from acceptable thresholds, reducing visual clutter during normal play.

In closed beta with pro and semi-pro teams, RiftStream saw a 26% reduction in session drops attributed to streaming issues and a 12-point NPS improvement among competitive players. The company plans to expand the latency-first philosophy into matchmaking and onboarding to align expectations for high-performance use cases.
