Runway launches StudioOS: local-first video editing with AI accelerators

Runway announced StudioOS, a desktop-focused editing environment that runs generative models locally and leverages optional local accelerator cards for intensive tasks like background replacement and temporal inpainting. The platform prioritizes privacy and low-latency interaction for pro creators.

StudioOS integrates native model management so teams can pin versions, audit outputs, and run custom fine-tuned models on-prem. Runway is shipping optimizations for common NLE workflows and claims real-time preview rates for many generative filters when used with supported accelerators.

The company will offer StudioOS under a subscription that includes cloud render credits for large batch jobs, but core generative features are usable offline. Runway targets creative agencies, indie filmmakers, and post houses that require both AI power and custody over raw footage.
