Runway launches Synthesis — offline-capable generative video for pros
AI · 6 min read
Synthesis targets professional creators with a focus on local inference and high-resolution outputs, offering built-in rotoscoping, frame interpolation, and style-transfer tools that work disconnected from the cloud. Runway claims significant speedups for high-fidelity renders through compiled, GPU-optimized kernels.
Alongside the product, Runway closed a $95 million Series C led by strategic investors focused on media and entertainment. Funds will be used to optimize models for on-prem hardware, expand file-format support, and build partnership programs with post-production studios.
Synthesis aims at studios with strict privacy and latency needs and attempts to bridge the gap between experimental generative tools and production pipelines. Runway says licensing options include per-seat enterprise deployments and render-farm licensing for large post houses.
