Runway ML updates generative video to UI motion transitions with interactive editing
Design · 4 min read
Designers can upload screen captures or frames and ask Runway to generate transition animations—like micro-interactions, list reorders, or modal entrances—tailored to a given brand's motion language. Generated animations can be adjusted in a timeline editor, where parameters like easing, duration, and keyframe interpolation are exposed for fine-tuning.
Runway also outputs Lottie and CSS-ready animations, enabling direct use in web and mobile projects. The company pitched the feature as a way to accelerate production of polished motion designs and to democratize motion-language creation for non-specialists.
Motion designers appreciated the speed but advised careful review: automated transitions can occasionally produce awkward tangents or physics that feel off-brand. The interactive editor helps, but teams should maintain motion guidelines to keep micro-interactions consistent across products.
