Runway releases 'GenScene' for on-demand game-ready asset generation
Gaming · 5 min read
Runway announced GenScene, a generator tailored to produce game assets with engine-ready exports. GenScene can create modular props, tileable textures, and low-to-high poly variations, plus LOD chains and normal maps. It includes presets for Unity and Unreal Engine that package assets with suggested collision geometry and simple material setups.
The tool supports semantic tagging so assets can be queried and filtered by theme, animation state, or performance cost. Designers can bulk-generate variations for environment dressing and export variants optimized for target consoles or mobile devices. Runway also added a 'consistency pack' mode, enabling cohesive asset generation across style guides for project-wide visual coherence.
Indie developers reported dramatic asset throughput increases, reducing reliance on expensive art outsourcing for early prototypes. However, AAA teams emphasized the need for artist oversight to achieve production-quality art and to ensure technical compliance with platform-specific pipelines. Runway indicated plans to refine export fidelity and add certified plugins for popular engines.
