Runway unveils FrameForge for frame-accurate video edits via text

FrameForge lets editors specify changes like 'replace sky between 00:01:12–00:01:24 with golden sunset' or 'remove left-of-frame object at frame 2324' and produces edits with smooth temporal transitions. The system uses a combination of frame interpolation, inpainting, and a temporal consistency model to minimize flicker and maintain motion blur and lighting continuity.

Runway reports that FrameForge scales from single-shot edits to batch operations across timelines and can export EDLs and proxies for downstream finishing. The company says the model runs partly in the cloud for heavy lifting but provides low-latency preview proxies so editors can iterate without full re-renders.

Video professionals applauded the ability to iterate quickly on editorial requests but warned that complex scene reconstructions still require manual rotoscoping for high-end VFX. Runway positioned FrameForge as a time-saver for many common edits, enabling smaller teams to produce sophisticated results faster.
