Salary-transparency laws push design comp higher in Q2 2026

Since January 2026, expanded salary-transparency legislation in multiple jurisdictions has required employers to publish pay ranges in job listings. Recruiters and compensation analysts say the law is forcing companies to be more realistic about what they will pay for design roles.

Early-career designers have benefited the most: published ranges have lifted the floor for junior positions by 8–12% on average as firms avoid underbidding. For senior roles, ranges are wider and negotiations still swing on equity and performance bonuses.

Design leaders advise candidates to use transparency to benchmark offers and negotiate equity more confidently. For employers, the law is accelerating the professionalization of comp bands, leveling expectations between agencies, in-house teams, and startups.
