Shard Systems introduced Atlas 2.0, an upgrade to its modular laptop line featuring an improved battery architecture, redesigned thermal system, and a new magnetic module bay for fast swaps between GPU, I/O, and battery packs. The company claims the Atlas 2.0 can reach two full days of mixed productivity use on a single charge with the extended battery module.
Concurrently, Shard closed a $50 million Series A led by Evergreen Capital to scale manufacturing and expand its retail presence. The funding will also accelerate development of third-party modules, with an SDK and certification program planned to ensure compatibility and safety across vendor modules.
The Atlas 2.0 also focuses on sustainability: all exterior panels are made from recycled aluminum, and Shard instituted a buyback program for older modules. Shard expects to ship to early backers next month and open pre-orders to retail partners later this summer.
