Sketch 2026 puts AI in the inspector: automated constraints, naming and token mapping
Design · 3 min read
Sketch released a 2026 update that integrates on-device AI into the inspector panel to help designers name layers semantically, infer auto-layout constraints, and map elements to design tokens. The goal is to reduce manual cleanup when preparing files for handoff to engineering.
The naming model recognizes patterns across files and suggests consistent names that align with a team's component library. Constraint inference analyzes layout intent and proposes responsive behaviors along with preview thumbnails.
Sketch also added a token mapping assistant that identifies colors, spacings, and typography styles and recommends tokenization with suggested fallback tokens for older browsers. For teams concerned about data, the AI runs fully on-device by default, with optional enterprise server deployment.
