Sketch grows plugin ecosystem with native GenAI plugin API

Sketch’s new API provides consolidated authentication, rate-limiting controls, and a standardized prompt schema so plugin developers can build consistent generation experiences. It also supports model capability discovery so designers see what a plugin can reliably do.

The API requires plugin providers to disclose whether generation happens locally or via third-party services, and it supports per-file opt-ins for sending design data. Sketch emphasized the security aspects, especially for enterprise teams handling proprietary UI assets.

Developers appreciated the reduced integration overhead and the clearer UX for permissions. Sketch announced an incentive program to accelerate plugin migration to the new API.
