Sketch launches 'Smart Components' that auto-adapt to content and brand tokens
Design · 3 min read
Smart Components in Sketch inherit brand tokens and can auto-size or rearrange internal layers when text or images change. Designers can define rules — such as minimum padding, responsive breakpoints and fallback images — and components will adapt across artboards.
Sketch’s team highlighted that components now expose a tiny 'automation' panel where designers can add simple generative rules powered by built-in models, like auto-generating alternative CTA copy or producing placeholder art based on mood keywords.
The feature arrives with new collaboration primitives for design ops: component analytics and usage reports that help teams find deprecated or conflicting tokens. Sketch says the update is free to existing subscribers and plugins will be able to extend Smart Components’ rule language.
