Sketchfab acquires TextureForge to add AI-driven PBR texture generation for 3D assets

TextureForge’s core technology uses diffusion and material-aware generative models to produce physically-based rendering (PBR) textures from photos, sketches or textual prompts. Sketchfab plans to embed the generator into its uploader and editor interfaces allowing creators to auto-generate texture maps and material variants.

The integration includes automatic UV-aware texture baking and seamless export pipelines for engines like Unity and Unreal. Creators can also generate level-of-detail (LOD) texture sets optimized for runtime performance.

Sketchfab said TextureForge’s team will join to accelerate the rollout and that existing TextureForge features will remain available to current customers. The combined offering targets 3D designers and indie studios who need faster asset iteration and lower production costs.
