SketchFab debuts Model-Based Material Generator for game UI creators
Gaming · 4 min read
The Model-Based Material Generator synthesizes UI materials — such as glass, holographic, or embossed metals — tailored to a project's visual language. Designers can specify high-level descriptors (e.g., "retro neon, worn metal") and receive PBR maps, normal maps, and shader graphs.
Export presets target major engines and include performance profiles for mobile and desktop. The generator also offers a 'UI material library' that teams can clamp to a consistent token set to maintain coherence across menus and heads-up displays.
SketchFab emphasized the generator's iterative workflow: artists can refine edge wear, specular response, and emission properties and immediately preview results in engine-compatible viewers. The product aims to speed up HUD design while keeping runtime budgets in check.
