SketchUp rolls out AI-assisted floor plan conversion from photos and PDFs

SketchUp's floor plan converter combines image vectorization, OCR, and heuristic dimensioning to transform photos or scanned PDFs into layered 2D plans and preliminary 3D models. The tool suggests wall heights, door swings, and window placements but keeps them editable for precision work.
The pipeline flags ambiguous areas and provides multiple hypotheses for dimension inference so designers can choose the most accurate interpretation. Output models include furniture placeholders generated from a curated asset library to help visualize scale.
SketchUp integrated the feature with its cloud collaboration tools so stakeholders can annotate the generated model and request corrections. The company claims the feature reduces the time to produce a workable 3D starting point from days to under an hour for typical renovation projects.
