SketchUp teams with AI Modeler to auto-generate furniture variants from sketches
Design · 4 min read
SketchUp's new furniture-variant generator leverages an AI Modeler backend to convert rough sketches or images into parametric 3D models. Designers specify constraints—dimensions, material types, joinery—and the tool produces multiple variants with editable parameters.
Generated models include annotated BOMs, cut lists, and assembly notes useful for prototyping and maker workflows. The tool also supports export to common CAM formats used by CNC routers and laser cutters.
SketchUp and AI Modeler are marketing the feature to furniture designers and UX teams building product configurators, citing faster iteration cycles and fewer translation errors between design and fabrication. The capability is included in SketchUp Pro subscriptions.
