Sony reveals PlayStation AR Glass and $120M developer partner fund

Sony unveiled PlayStation AR Glass, a pass-through augmented reality headset designed for HUD-driven gameplay and companion experiences that augment living-room play. The hardware focuses on low-latency passthrough, head-tracked UI, and a developer SDK that ties into existing PlayStation services.

Alongside the hardware, Sony created a $120 million developer partner fund to subsidize early AR content and middleware. The fund will support studios porting existing IP to AR formats, as well as new AR-native titles that leverage spatial UI concepts and persistent companion layers.

Sony emphasizes the glasses as a complementary product to PlayStation consoles and mobile devices, not a direct VR rival. Early partners include narrative studios and sports franchises experimenting with second-screen experiences and overlays for live events.
