Stability AI introduces StableSketch: a layout-first generative model

StableSketch by Stability AI is a layout-first model that generates mockups with explicit grid systems and responsive breakpoints. Instead of producing static images, outputs include layout annotations and suggested CSS-like constraints.

The approach is meant to accelerate wireframing: designers can provide structure prompts like 'two-column responsive article layout with hero image' and receive editable mockups with annotated spacing tokens. StableSketch also supports iterative refinement where constraints are adjusted incrementally.

Integrations with leading design tools are in beta, and Stability AI released an API for plugin developers. Designers appreciate the ability to jumpstart responsive prototypes, though front-end engineers note that exported constraints are a starting point rather than production-ready code.
