Stability AI publishes StableSketch 1.0: a vector-aware image-to-SVG model
AI · 5 min read
StableSketch moves beyond simple tracing by recognizing semantic shapes and grouping related vector paths into meaningful layers. It produces editable paths with simplified node counts, preserved typography where possible, and suggested layer names to make downstream editing easier.
The model supports presets targeting UI assets, illustrations, and iconography. For UI-focused conversions, StableSketch attempts to infer consistent corner radii, button padding, and grid alignment to produce more production-ready vectors. The output also contains metadata that maps path groups to potential design system primitives.
Stability AI published the model weights under a permissive license and released a web-based demo plus a plugin for Figma and Illustrator. The company warned that more complex photorealistic images still require manual cleanup, and encouraged the community to contribute post-processing scripts for various edge cases.
